Iron Chef America

You know what? I could be the next Iron Chef. Really, I'm a pretty good cook. Honestly, I think with my skills, a Sous chef (or 5) and a dedicated clean up crew, I could do amazing things. Okay, okay...so I can't make a crazy, 5 course gourmet meal in less than an hour with some mystery ingredient I've never heard of. Fine. I'll admit that, however, I'd LOVE to see Bobby Flay whip up a fantastic meal for 7 with a baby on his hip, a toddler underfoot who is cracking eggs and smearing them all over the floor. All the while making sure it's nutritionally balanced, tasty enough to please the pickiest (and I mean pickier than the pickiest of food critics), frugal enough to fit in our budget and have it all cleaned up and ready to eat BEFORE the babies both break down and start screaming from either lack of attention or hunger, or both. Yeah, try THAT, Bobby Flay. You wanna have a throw down?!?! I challenge you...in MY kitchen, under MY circumstances...yeah, good luck to you!

Amen! So true! I would love some recipes sometimes, since I am sort of....ummm... lacking in that department as of late :-)

Tonight I made Zuppa Toscana with Rosemary Dill Bread (http://www.simplylivingsmart.com/2011/09/rosemary-dill-bread.html) The bread was really, really good! The soup I made starting with homemade stock (I keep chicken bones in the freezer and make stock usually once a week), Brown 1lb bulk Italian sausage and remove from pan to drain. In large stock pot cook 1 diced onion and 2-3 diced garlic cloves. Add 3 large potatoes sliced thinly (like potato chips). Add stock and sausage and simmer until potatoes are soft. Add 1 small bunch of kale, thinly sliced. Cook until kale is soft. This is one of my family's favorite soups...and it freezes really well, so I made a HUGE pot of it.

Awwwh, Cheryl, you're too sweet. Just ask my darling husband though, a meal like this doesn't happen all the time anymore. One day, but right now it IS quite a feat!
